As your hosts, we love scoping out the local dining scene so we can give you the best possible recommendations during your stay. We absolutely love a good night out for Chinese food, so we recently decided to try out Golden Dragon in Westerly.
Here is our honest take on the experience to help you decide if it should make your vacation itinerary!
The First Impression: Off to a Great Start
Things started off on a very high note. We were seated right away by a genuinely friendly staff. To my absolute joy, we were immediately greeted with classic fried wontons and duck sauce for the table—always a fantastic way to kick off a meal.

The Food: Fast, but Missing a Spark
The food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. For our meal, we decided to share the vegetable spring rolls to start. For our mains, Nichole ordered the Vegetable Lo Mein, and I went with the House Mei Fun.
While the food was overall “okay,” what was really missing for us was a pop of flavor:
- The Appetizers: The vegetable spring rolls lacked an internal flavor profile and ended up serving more as a crunchy, flavorless tool just to dip in the sugary sauce.
- The Mains: My House Mei Fun fell a bit flat and definitely needed a heavy hand of soy sauce to bring it to life. Nichole was a little less harsh in her review of the Vegetable Lo Mein—it was fine, but it wasn’t a “best ever” experience.

The Service
The service throughout the meal was perfectly reasonable. I received a prompt refill for my drink mid-way through dinner, which is always appreciated. However, the experience fizzled out at the very end. After dropping off the check, our waitress seemed to abandon us, looking far more interested in watching the sushi chef roll sushi than closing out our table.
The Final Verdict
Skip it and try another spot. While the initial greeting was warm and the wontons were a nostalgic treat, the overall meal just didn’t hit the mark for us. If you are in Westerly and really craving some standout Chinese food, we recommend trying out some of the other local options in town instead.
